Karla Kochan leads a dynamic team at Agriculture Financial Services Corporation (AFSC) that is responsible for implementing a values-based culture within Human Resources and beyond. She oversees the ‘people function’ of the Corporation including talent acquisition and development, employee relations and engagement, payroll and benefits administration, compensation, performance management, occupational health and safety and change management. Additionally, by managing the Marketing and Communications department Karla is able to ensure AFSC has a strong internal brand and communications strategy that upholds the Corporation’s values.

Focusing on the employee experience has allowed AFSC to intertwine the organization’s values within the company culture. AFSC’s people and culture are key factors in recruiting and retaining talent as well as making the organization a great place to work, as showcased by Top Employer accolades: AFSC has been a Top 100 Employer in Canada for 9 years and has been continuously named a Top 70 Employer in Alberta for a decade.

AFSC is currently focusing on developing an enhanced and robust People Strategy aimed at ensuring AFSC’s programs, systems and policies attract, engage and retain a high-performance workforce. Karla has been in the Human Resources field for close to 20 years and has worked in both the public and private sector as well as the non-profit industry. She recently completed her MBA in Executive Leadership and also holds a Strategic HR Certificate from Cornell University. Karla is a certified Predictive Index® Analyst as well as a certification in Personality Dimensions® and is currently working towards her certification in Emotional Quotient Inventory (EQ-i2.0 and EQ360).
